THE DESKTOP COMPANION, EXPLAINED

Ledger Live Desktop.
Start with confidence.

Ledger Live Desktop is the official companion application for managing your Ledger hardware wallet from a computer. This independent guide walks through the first launch, device connection, and everyday habits that help you stay in control—without losing sight of the most important rule: your recovery phrase belongs only to you.

An informational guide. Always verify downloads and instructions on Ledger’s official domains.

A clear view of your digital assets.

Ledger Live Desktop brings portfolio visibility and hardware-wallet management together in one place. After connecting a Ledger device, you can review supported accounts, check balances, and use available features through the application. The hardware wallet remains central: it stores private keys and is used to approve transactions, while the desktop app provides an interface for viewing and preparing activity.

That distinction matters. The app does not replace your device’s security checks, and installing software does not mean your crypto is stored in the application. Treat Ledger Live as a control panel—not a place to disclose secrets. Keep your device’s screen in view when reviewing an address or approving an action, and make sure the details shown on the device match what you intended.

Quick reminder Ledger will never need your 24-word recovery phrase entered into a website, chat, or desktop app. Anyone asking for it is not a legitimate support representative.

Starting up your device,
one deliberate step at a time.

A careful setup is usually a simple setup. Move at your own pace and rely on official instructions for the model you own.

01

Prepare a trusted computer

Update your operating system, use a network you trust, and close unexpected prompts. If you have just received a device, follow its official in-box and on-screen setup flow rather than relying on a second-hand configuration.

02

Download from Ledger directly

Reach Ledger Live through Ledger’s official website. Check the domain carefully before downloading; sponsored results, unsolicited messages, and lookalike pages can lead to counterfeit software. Avoid installers shared through file-hosting links.

03

Connect and follow device prompts

Open the desktop app and connect your hardware wallet using the appropriate cable. Unlock the device with its PIN and follow the instructions displayed on the device itself. Do not share your PIN or recovery phrase with anyone.

04

Review before you approve

When an action asks for confirmation, read the information on the hardware wallet screen. Confirm only when the destination and amount are what you expect. If anything looks unfamiliar, reject the request and investigate through official support resources.

Application screens and available options can change over time. If your version looks different, consult Ledger’s current setup documentation rather than following outdated screenshots or instructions from an unknown source.

KEEP THE IMPORTANT THINGS OFFLINE

Your recovery phrase is
not a password reset.

Your recovery phrase is the master backup for your wallet. Write it down during the device’s genuine setup process and store it privately in a secure place. Never photograph it, type it into Ledger Live, save it in cloud storage, or share it with someone claiming they can fix an account. Ledger support cannot recover it for you.

Use a unique device PIN, keep your computer and app updated, and be cautious with links and unsolicited help. Before sending assets, verify the receiving address on your hardware wallet display. Security is a series of small, repeatable decisions—not a single setting you turn on once.

When in doubt,
go to the source.

Use Ledger’s own channels for current downloads, device-specific setup steps, and security information. Bookmark the official pages instead of trusting links in unsolicited messages.

Ledger Live Desktop can make routine wallet management more approachable, but your hardware wallet and careful judgment remain essential. Start from verified sources, take time to review each prompt, and never let urgency persuade you to reveal your recovery phrase. A calm, verified first launch is a strong foundation for managing digital assets with greater confidence.
